Overview

A Motor Control Center (MCC) is a centralized electrical assembly designed for the distribution of power, control, protection, and monitoring of electric motors and auxiliary loads within Oil & Gas facilities.
In upstream, midstream, and downstream installations—such as production plants, gas treatment units, compressor stations, refineries, water treatment systems, and incineration packages—electric motors are critical for operating pumps, compressors, blowers, fans, and other rotating equipment. The MCC represents the main interface between the plant power distribution system and these motor-driven process units.

System Scope

The MCC provides a centralized solution for motor power distribution and control, integrating protection, control, and monitoring functions in a modular and maintainable design.

Subsystems

Typical MCC subsystems include:

  • Fixed or withdrawable motor feeders
  • Power busbar system
  • Motor protection and control devices
  • Soft starters or variable frequency drives (VFDs)
  • Metering and signaling devices

Integration

The MCC is designed to interface with plant electrical and automation systems and can be integrated with PLC, SCADA, or DCS platforms, ensuring safe and reliable operation in accordance with IEC standards.
