Overview

The Gas Conditioning System is designed to treat natural gas from the wellhead up to custody transfer, ensuring safe, reliable, and standards-compliant operation in Oil & Gas applications. The system conditions raw gas to meet downstream process, transport, and commercial requirements by controlling gas quality, pressure, and safety parameters.

System Scope

Gas Conditioning Systems are engineered as fully integrated packages:

  • Inlet manifold and isolation valves
  • Two-phase or three-phase separators
  • Filter separators / coalescers / cartridge filters
  • Pressure reduction and flow control valves
  • Gas metering skid, flow meters, and flow computers
  • Relief valves and vent systems
  • Knock-out drums
  • Emergency Shutdown (ESD) interfaces
  • Heating systems (electric or hot oil heaters)

Subsystems

Inlet Manifold and Isolation Valves

Engineering of inlet manifolds and isolation valves to collect and distribute incoming gas to downstream units, ensuring safe flow routing, isolation, and maintainability during operation and maintenance.

Engineering of gas filtration systems to remove liquids, aerosols, and solid particles from the gas stream, protecting downstream equipment and ensuring gas quality.

Engineering of pressure reduction and flow control valves to accurately regulate gas pressure and flow rate, maintaining stable downstream conditions and protecting equipment from overpressure and flow disturbances.

Engineering of gas metering systems for operational and custody transfer purposes, integrating certified flow meters, pressure and temperature compensation, and flow computers in compliance with Oil & Gas industry standards.

Engineering of ESD interfaces to ensure safe and rapid shutdown of the gas conditioning system during abnormal or emergency conditions, with reliable integration into plant safety systems.

Engineering Approach

The engineering of gas conditioning systems follows an integrated design approach focused on safety, reliability, and compliance with Oil & Gas standards. Activities start with the definition of the design basis and operating conditions, followed by detailed sizing and selection of all major components.
This approach ensures safe operation, accurate measurement, and long-term system reliability.

System Integration

Typical integration scenarios include:

  • Upstream gas production facilities – conditioning of raw gas at the wellhead or central processing facilities prior to processing or export
  • Gas gathering systems – treatment of gas from multiple wells to ensure stable downstream operation
  • Gas processing plants – conditioning upstream of dehydration, acid gas removal, fractionation, or liquefaction units
  • Pipeline entry points – conditioning upstream of transmission pipelines to meet pipeline specifications
  • Custody transfer stations – conditioning upstream of metering systems to ensure accurate fiscal measurement
  • Fuel gas systems – conditioning of gas used for turbines, engines, heaters, and boilers
  • Storage and export facilities – conditioning prior to storage systems, LNG facilities, or export terminals
