Overview

The Pre-Treatment System is designed to condition raw water or produced water upstream of advanced treatment processes, ensuring stable operation, equipment protection, and compliance with process requirements.
The system removes coarse solids, suspended particles, oil traces, and other contaminants to prepare the water for downstream treatment units such as filtration, desalination, reuse, or reinjection systems.

System Scope

Pre-Treatment Systems are engineered as fully integrated packages and typically include the following main components:

  • Coarse screens and strainers
  • Media filters (sand, multimedia, or equivalent)
  • Oil and solids removal units (when required)
  • Chemical dosing systems (coagulants, flocculants, pH control)
  • Backwash and cleaning systems
  • Transfer and circulation pumps
  • Drain and sludge handling systems
  • Pressure, flow, and quality instrumentation

Subsystems

Coarse Screening and Straining

Engineering of coarse screening and straining systems to remove large debris and suspended solids, protecting downstream treatment equipment.

Engineering of media filtration systems to reduce turbidity and suspended solids, providing stable feed water quality for downstream processes.

Engineering of chemical injection systems to enhance solids removal, control pH, and improve overall treatment efficiency.

Engineering of backwash and cleaning systems to restore filter performance and ensure continuous operation.

Engineering of pumps and instrumentation to maintain controlled flow, monitor system performance, and detect abnormal conditions.

Engineering Approach

The engineering of pre-treatment systems follows an integrated and process-driven design approach, focused on reliability, flexibility, and protection of downstream treatment units. Engineering activities begin with the definition of the design basis, including water source, flow rate, contamination level, pressure, temperature, and required outlet quality.
This approach ensures stable feed water quality and reliable long-term system performance.

System Integration

Pre-Treatment Systems are not standalone units, but integral components of the overall water treatment facility, ensuring that incoming water is properly conditioned before advanced treatment or reuse.
This integrated design philosophy ensures that, when inlet water quality fluctuates or abnormal conditions occur, the pre-treatment system responds in a controlled and coordinated manner—safeguarding downstream processes and overall plant performance.
