Overview

The Chemical Dosing System is designed to accurately inject chemicals into process, water, or utility streams to optimize performance, protect equipment, and ensure process stability in Oil & Gas facilities.
The system provides controlled and reliable dosing for applications such as corrosion inhibition, scale prevention, pH control, biocide treatment, and process conditioning.

System Scope

Chemical Dosing Systems are engineered as fully integrated skid-mounted packages and typically include the following main components:

  • Chemical storage tanks (atmospheric or pressurized)
  • Metering pumps (diaphragm, plunger, or peristaltic)
  • Injection quills and dosing lines
  • Calibration columns
  • Chemical transfer and circulation pumps (when required)
  • Safety valves and pressure relief devices
  • Secondary containment and spill protection
  • Pressure, flow, and level instrumentation
  • Local control panel and interfaces
  • Emergency Shutdown (ESD) interfaces

Subsystems

Chemical Storage and Containment

Engineering of chemical storage tanks and secondary containment systems to safely store chemicals and prevent environmental contamination.

Engineering of metering pumps, injection quills, and dosing lines to ensure accurate, repeatable, and controlled chemical injection under varying operating conditions.

Engineering of calibration columns and testing facilities to verify dosing accuracy and support commissioning and routine maintenance.

Engineering of chemical transfer and circulation systems to safely handle chemicals between storage, dosing, and injection points.

Engineering of level, pressure, and flow instrumentation to monitor system performance and chemical consumption.

Engineering of local and remote control systems, including dosing control logic, alarms, and interlocks, with integration into PLC/SCADA/DCS systems.

Engineering of ESD interfaces to ensure rapid isolation and safe shutdown during abnormal or emergency conditions.

Engineering Approach

The engineering of chemical dosing systems follows an integrated and application-driven design approach, focused on accuracy, safety, and reliability. Engineering activities begin with the definition of the design basis, including chemical type, dosing rate, injection point conditions, pressure, temperature, and required control philosophy.
This approach ensures accurate chemical dosing, safe handling, and long-term system reliability.

System Integration

Chemical Dosing Systems are not standalone units, but integral components of the overall facility, supporting multiple process and utility functions.
This integrated design philosophy ensures that, when operating conditions change or abnormal situations occur, the chemical dosing system responds safely and accurately—maintaining process efficiency and plant integrity.
